The FIA GT Series on the right track

Built on the foundations of the defunct FIA GT1, the FIA GT Series (which was once called the GT Sprint Series) is taking shape. SRO (Stéphane Ratel Organisation) has just revealed the calendar. In 2013, particularly due to the economic situation, the program will be limited. Six rounds consisting of two races of one hour each are planned, with a start in France in Nogaro (April 1), and an end in November in Abu Dhabi, for the only event run outside Europe.

As for the teams registered, there are currently ten of them. THE Sébastien Loeb Racing is one of them, the Alsatian team fielding two McLaren MP4-12C. We can therefore still hope to have 24 cars as expected on the starting grids.
In Nogaro, on the occasion of the Easter Cups, Hexis (McLaren), Sofrev ASP (Ferrari) or even Saintéloc (Audi) could come and do some freelance work.

“After these three challenging years spent promoting the FIA GT1 world championship, we are delighted to have designed a realistic and credible platform which will bring together a quality grid in 2013, welcomes Stéphane Ratel, boss of SRO. The European events were chosen on their ability to bring together as many spectators as possible, and the final allows it to maintain a little exotic side. A strong mix of 100% pro duos, mixing a pro and an amateur or associating two young drivers, associated with a desire to improve coverage of the series will create solid foundations for the future growth of the GT. Together with the FIA, as well as the support of the teams, we are confident in the potential of this new GT Sprint package which will be known as the FIA GT Series. »

2013 FIA GT Series Calendar:

April 1: Nogaro (France)
April 21: Zolder (Belgium)
July 14: Zandvoort (Netherlands)
August 18: Slovakia Ring (Slovakia)
October 13: Navarra (Spain)
November 16 or 23: Abu Dhabi (UAE)
