The GT1 World Championship on the way

It?s now official; After the Formula 1, WRC and the WTCC, a fourth World Championship will appear in 2010. This is GT1. The FIA revealed this information at the end of the World Motor Sport Council which was held on Wednesday in Paris.

The FIA GT Championship (GT1 and GT2) as well as the European GT3 Championship will be replaced by three new, more easily identifiable disciplines. Placed under the control of SRO which will be the promoter of the discipline, the FIA GT1 World Championship will thus be reserved for independent teams and professional drivers.

Two other European series will take place. On one side, the FIA GT2 European Championship reserved for independent teams and professional and private drivers and on the other, an FIA GT3 European Championship reserved for independent teams and private drivers.
