GT World will only be contested in GT3

SRO, the promoter of the GT World Championship, had considered carrying out a transition year in 2012 by mixing GT1 and GT3 cars, before only allowing the latter category the following season. However, in order to reduce costs and given the end of the GT1 homologation period, the 2012 GT World Championship will ultimately only be contested with GT3s. The final schedule will be revealed at the next FIA World Council this month.

“With the economic climate and the evolution of competition in motorsport, we thought that the unification of the sporting and technical regulations of the FIA ​​GT1 and the European GT3 Championships was the best solution”, explains Stéphane Ratel, president of SRO. “By adopting the GT3 technical regulations, we are opening our doors to more manufacturers. »
