GT3s allowed again on the Nordschleife

The 28 last march, a spectator died following the impressive exit from the track of the Nissan GT-R GT3 by Jann Mardenborough at the level of the curve Airfield on the Nordschleife in Germany on the occasion of the opening of the VLN. Radical measures were then taken, including the temporary ban of several categories including GT3.

The board of the DMSB (German Motorsport Federation) finally decided during its last extraordinary meeting to reintegrate the different categories (SP7, SP8, SP8T, SP9, SP-Pro, SP-X and Cup-2, the GT classes of H4, E1-XP1, E1-XP2 and E1-XP Hybrid) previously banned, including GT3, on events approved by the DMSB, but also to take new decisions aimed at improving safety on the Nordschleife. Vehicles in the highest classes will have their engine power reduced by 5%., and the speed in certain portions of the route must not exceed 200 km/h (250 km/h on the Döttinger Höhe straight). This measurement will be monitored by GPS and may give rise, in the event of violation of the rule, to penalties.

Furthermore, access to certain “Public” areas will be limited. “With this package of measures, the races planned on the Nürburgring in the coming weeks can take place, says Hans-Joachim Stuck, president of the DSMB. At the same time, the DMSB will convene a commission of experts to look for additional solutions that can be integrated later. » Remember that the qualifying race for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring must take place this Saturday.
