Marc VDS wants to triumph at home

After a first meeting in Abu Dhabi which saw the French team Hexis AMR triumph, the protagonists of the FIA GT1 world championship will meet this weekend in Zolder in Belgium. On the Yas Marina circuit, the Marc VDS Racing Team managed to secure victory during the qualifying round, thanks to its new duo Maxime Martin – Frédéric Makowiecki. Unfortunately, the championship race was not of the same ilk, with a final eighth place after receiving a penalty. This weekend, for what will be its home round, the Belgian team will want to show its supporters that they will have to be counted on for the title this year.

“It’s a circuit that Fred and I know well having raced there in GT3, underlines Maxime Martin, who drives the No. 41 Ford GT Matech. A good chassis is important on this track, but you also need acceleration to get out of slow corners and chicanes, and we know that is not the strong point of our car. This will make overtaking a little more difficult, but I'm sure we can still get two good results. Winning a race or even getting on the podium will be more complicated than in Abu Dhabi, but we will try to achieve it. I hope we can give our fans something to celebrate. »

The tandem he formed with Mako in any case showed an impressive burst of speed during the opening round. Performances which have not gone unnoticed, and which fill team manager Michel Delporte with hope.

“After the victory of Max and Mako in Abu Dhabi (in the qualifying race, editor's note), we arrive in Zolder with great hopes of repeating this performance in front of our public, explains the latter. And, although it won't be easy, I'm sure both of them will be able to fight at the forefront. »

Throughout the weekend, the Marc VDS Racing Team staff will certainly have a fond thought for Martin Bartek, the designer of the Ford GT Matech, who passed away last Monday (see here). For several seasons now, the Marc VDS Racing Team has entered Ford GTs from the workshops of the former boss of the Matech Concept company, with whom they maintained close relationships.
