Maserati wins at home

The weekend could have been perfect for the K plus K team. Everything started well. After an honest fourth time during free practice, the Sharp/Wendlinger crew set the best time on Friday evening, then again on Saturday afternoon, during qualifying. Leader of the championship after their victory at Silverstone, the drivers of the Saleen S7 thought they were heading for a double. Then the day turned into a nightmare. Downgraded for technical irregularity in aerodynamic elements, the Saleen left the race on the first lap.

Placed in the lead following the decommissioning of the S7, the Maserati MC 12 n°1 from Bertolini/Bartels could benefit from the windfall. After setting off into the sunset, the Maserati was never worried, keeping the lead from start to finish. The Italian duo, world champions, impeccable until the last minute of the race, can enjoy the ten points of victory. After their second place at Silverstone, the Vitaphone team drivers take the lead in the championship with 18 points.

If the Maassen/Moreau team of the Luc Alphand team can be satisfied with their fourth place, there is no doubt that the Belgian and French can also regret the podium. The Corvette has long been on par with the two cars placing second and third. Behind the No. 1 Maserati, we find the Corvette of Kumpen/Hezemans (PK Carsport) and the other Maserati of Vitaphone, driven by Müller/Ramos.
