Nissan inherits the Tourist Trophy

We thought we had witnessed a double Aston Martin during the second round of the GT1 Championship. But the No. 22 Nissan GT-R benefited from the downgrading of the first two Astons. Aston Martin, on its land, had nevertheless fulfilled its mission perfectly. Victory for Makowiekci/Accary in the qualifying race, victory for Turner/Enge in the championship race, a perfect weekend. Perfect until both cars received a penalty.

If two Aston DB9s were sanctioned, they were for two completely different reasons. The No. 7 of the Young Driver AMR team, first on the track, was excluded for having a flat bottom that was too low compared to the minimum required. The second Aston Martin DB9, the No. 9 Hexis AMR, was given a 15-second penalty for not having completed its drive through during the three laps allotted to it to do so.

Victory therefore went to Jamie Campbell-Walter and Warren Hughes, who took the Tourist Trophy, ultimately ahead of the No. 9 Aston of Makowiecki/Accary. “ We were happy with third place, says Warren Hughes. Then we were told we could be second, so to know we won is incredible. I'm delighted with this victory, a very good result for us and a great result for the championship. »

Jamie Campbell-Walter was no less happy. “ For a British driver, it is a great honor to win the Tourist Trophy. And being the first to give Nissan a victory in FIA GT1 is also incredible. » Next meeting in Brno from May 21 to 23.
