Stéphane Ratel presents the 1 FIA GT2011

It was from the Hôtel des Invalides that Stéphane Ratel launched the 2011 FIA GT1 season. In the presence of Jean Todt, the President of SRO revealed the broad outlines of what awaits the competitors. Concerning the latter, although 18 registration requests were recently announced, only 16 cars appear on the entry list, distributed equitably between Aston Martin DB9, Ford GT Matech, Lamborghini Murcielago 670 R-SV and Nissan GT-R.

Unlike 2010, each crew will benefit from six sets of new tires, compared to four previously. Concerning the points scale, the qualifying race will now reward the first six instead of just the podium of the event. Ballast, finally, is the latest novelty. The first two cars in the qualifying race will receive 10 kg and 5 kg of ballast respectively, while the car classified in 9th place will have 5 kg removed. All cars having finished at least 10th will have 10 kg removed. The ballast allocated during the championship race was also changed to 30 kg, instead of 40, for the winner. The weight of the two races will be added to produce the increase or reduction in weight and will take effect from the next event.

"Chis year will see the second season of the FIA GT1 World Championship. After a first edition of ten exciting rounds, which saw Michael Bartels and Andrea Bertolini crowned champions, we are very pleased to unveil a quality line-up for 2011 both at driver and team level., welcomed Stéphane Ratel. We will also discover new horizons with for the first time, in September, a GT1 Mondial event in China, but also new circuits in Germany and Brazil. »

In 2010, the FIA GT1 joined the Formula 1, WRC and the WTCC in the very restricted circle of the FIA world championships. A pivotal first year in the history of the category since SRO authorized the old GT1s alongside new generation cars represented by the Ford GT, Nissan GT-R and Lamborghini Murcielago.
