TCR – The VW Golf ready for its debut

Last Tuesday, we talked to you abouta copy of the Volkswagen Golf TCR in tests on the Red Bull Spielberg Ring. This car will be entrusted to Liqui Moly Team Engstler this weekend, for the Austrian meeting of the TCR International Series. Franz Engstler's group announced at the end of last year that it had to align itself with the Golfs in 2015, finally evolving with Audis until the latest from Wolfsburg are ready.

Powered by a 2,0 hp 330L four-cylinder engine mated to a DSG gearbox with steering wheel paddles, the Golf based on the seventh generation of the German brand's best-seller, will now be tested in racing conditions to accelerate the development of the car. Volkswagen is studying a potential customer program for 2016.

Developed in association with the SEAT Sport department, which has extensive experience with this type of car (like the LEON Cup Racer which is racing in TCR this year). “The newly-arrived TCR category offers a promising platform for customer competition, both nationally and internationally, explains Jost Capito, boss of Volkswagen Motorsport. With great racing, technology based on production and reasonable costs, it offers new perspectives for private teams. »
