A very rich platter

No less than 12 distinct brands should be at the start of the FIA GT3 championship, launched in 2006 by Stéphane Ratel. The entry list includes two Ascari KZ1R GT3s, four Aston Martin DBRS9, four Audi R8 LMS, four Alpina B6 GT3, four Corvette Z06 GT3, two Dodge Viper Competition, six Ferrari 430 Team, six Ford GTs, two Jaguar XKR-S, two Lamborghini Gallardo GT3s, two Morgan Aero Super Sport, and six Porsche 997 GT3 Cup S. Thus, no less than 44 cars as diverse as they are prestigious were to constitute a field of choice.

While waiting for the official list published by the FIA, we find renowned teams. Thus, teams like Alpina, CRS Racing, Phoenix Racing, Reiter Engineering, Team Rosberg, and Zakspeed should participate in the professionalization of a championship which looks promising.

These models have been found and will be found again during performance equivalence tests to offer the fairest possible platform. The first took place on March 17 and 18 on the Paul Ricard HTTT circuit. The second ones are scheduled for April 1 and 2 on the Monteblanco route in Spain. Teams comprising only two cars are limited to a single day of testing. Thus, Lamborghini and Ascari met during the first sessions at Paul Ricard. Jaguar and Morgan are meeting in Spain. The other teams will be able to attend both sessions. Driver responsible for equivalences, Christophe Bouchut and Jean Marc Gounon will drive all the models.

The GT4 category is not left out, with no less than 13 different models tested by Kurt Mollekens. Ten of them belonging to the GT4 category and the other three to the Supersport class. The first of these includes the Aston Martin N24, Aston Martin Vantage GT4, BMW M3 GT4, Corvtte C6 GT4, Ford Mustang FR500C, Ginetta G50, Audi TT, Maserati Gran Turismo MC, Nissan 350Z and Porsche 997 GT3. The second includes the KTM X-Bow GT4, Donkervoort D8GT and a newcomer, the 207 Spider.

See you on May 1st for the start of the season.
