The opening round of the second edition of the FIA GT1 World Championship, on March 26 in Abu Dhabi, is fast approaching, and the field is taking shape. New team, Belgian Racing has acquired the two Ford GT Matech Compétition. A high-performance car, and led twice to victory last year by Romain Grosjean and Thomas Mutsch. The Belgian team will receive technical support from Marc VDS Racing, which is also fielding two examples of the Ford GT.

“We are a new team in GT1, but we will not really start from scratch, explains Laurence Hanssen, the team manager. These are the cars which won twice last season, and which allowed Thomas Mutsch to finish vice-champion. So we know it's a competitive package. We have received all the data with the cars, and Marc VDS Racing will provide us with technical support. »

Concerning the drivers, no names have yet been put forward, but they could be big names if we are to believe the comments made by the Team manager.

“The level of the FIA GT1 World Championship is high, and the key to success lies in a high-performance driver line-up. We are in discussions with a number of experienced riders, all of whom are potential winners, but we are also speaking with young people wanting to move up to world level. »

In terms of decoration, the two Belgian Racing Ford GTs should feature very Belgian colors.

“We are a Belgian team, and thought we should race with the national colors on our cars, continues Laurence Hanssen. The livery will also incorporate certain elements of the Marc VDS Racing design in recognition of our technical partnership. »
