V8 – James Courtney extricates himself from the chaos of Adelaide

James Courtney (Holden Racing Team) made a superb comeback from 15th position to claim victory in the 250km main event of the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide. The driver of the No. 22 Holden won his duel against Craig Lowndes (Red Bull Racing Australia), the winner of the second race of the weekend. The Triple Eight driver put terrible pressure on the leader in the final laps before making slight contact with the wall. His teammate Jamie Whincup only took 15th place following a penalty imposed for a poor stop. Shane van Gisbergen (Team Tekno VIP Petfoods) took the final step of the podium after starting from pole, the Commodore driver having suffered a drive-through following a poor restart.

Fabian Coulthard (Lockwood Racing) gives Holden a quadruple, with Rick Kelly’s (Jack Daniel’s Racing) Nissan Altima completing the top five. Only ten cars finished on the leader's lap, the race having been marked by multiple collisions. The most impressive of all occurred in the first laps during a restart where Jason Bright (Team BOC) rolled. Although the Holden was destroyed in the accident, the Australian fortunately escaped unscathed.

The summary of the third race in Adelaide can be seen on this link.
