V8 – Mark Winterbottom champion in Sydney

Jamie Whincup (Triple Eight Racing) won the antepenultimate race of the season, the first event of the final meeting of the season in Sydney, after gaining four positions from his fifth place on the grid. The six-time champion finished ahead of Shane van Gisbergen (Team Darrell Lea STIX) who gave way to the #1 Holden during the pit stops. Jason Bright (Team BOC) completed the podium ahead of James Courtney (Holden Racing Team).

Mark Winterbottom (Pepsi Max Crew) took only fifth place after starting from pole, but his title rival Craig Lowndes (Triple Eight Racing) had to settle for 15th. The Championship leader only needed a 21st place finish in the final race of the season to secure the title.

Race 2

While Jamie Whincup remained undefeated by winning Race 2, it was Mark Winterbottom who claimed his first title in 13 years of competing in V8 Supercars after securing third place behind David Reynolds (The Bottle-O Racing Team ), which gives him a 220-point advantage over seventh-placed Craig Lowndes in the penultimate race of the season.
