V8SC – Ford announces its withdrawal at the end of 2015

It’s a small earthquake in the world of V8 Supercars. Ford Australia, historic partner of the Australian championship, with 23 titles won, will withdraw at the end of the 2015 season.

“We are aware of what some people will think, but all I ask is that people understand that this is not about cutting costs, but rather investing in areas that consumers will appreciate,
Ford Australia marketing manager David Katic told motoring.com.au. We understand passion, but we think we have to make some tough decisions – and they are tough. »

Ford was notably involved with Ford Performance Racing and the Ford Falcons fielded by Mark Winterbottom and Chaz Mostert. In 2015, Ford's presence will be limited, with the two new FG-X Falcons from FPR and the future DJR Team Penske team, which will his arrival with Marcos Ambrose. As to Super Black Racing, their commitment could be confirmed shortly, with just one car. Beyond the season, all support will cease.

“It is clear that we are disappointed with this decision to cease financial support for FPR beyond 2015,
admits David Warburton, boss of V8 Supercars. Disappointed for the fans, for the team, the drivers and other partners who have worked so hard for the Ford brand. We understand things are tough for Ford right now, but we hope they continue to see the enormous value our sport has for the brand. The good news for our fans is that there will still be six Falcons on the grid in 2015. With our private teams, even without factory support, we are confident that there will be Fords on the grid in 2016 and beyond. In any case, we hope to welcome Ford back into our discipline in the future. »
