The first round of the FFSA GT season, on the Paul Armagnac circuit in Nogaro, kept its promises and we had to wait until the last laps to know the name of the winners, in this case the duettists Patrick Bornhauser and Laurent Groppi on the Saleen de Larbre Competition.

Bornhauser-Groppi victorious in FFSA GT

The sky was gray and the rain was there for this first round. When the lights went out, the conditions required caution and the competitors completed the first lap without incident, Jean-Claude Police (Corvette C5-R) maintaining his leadership ahead of Wilfried Merafina (Corvette C6.R), Bruno Hernandez ( Corvette C6.R), Ange Barde (Ferrari 550 Maranello), Patrick Bornhauser (Saleen S7R), Eric Debard (Corvette C6.R) and Yvan Lebon (Saleen S7R). During the first half hour, there was little upheaval to report, except Barde's loss of places and Merafina's off-track incursion.

The crash of a GT3 Lamborghini Gallardo on the 14th lap led to the safety car entering the track, a time chosen by the different teams to make driver changes. Thanks to an excellent strategy from Larbre Compétition, Laurent Groppi, Bornhauser's teammate, came out on top ahead of Soheil Ayari (second to Hernandez) and Sébastien Loeb (Bard). At the restart, given after long minutes and a big mess, Groppi widened the gap and, helpless, Ayari was satisfied with the second step of the podium. Laurent Cazenave, having taken over from Police in 4th place, overtook Loeb to enter the Top 3, the five-time world rally champion finally dropping to 5th place behind Olivier's Corvette Panis.
