Brodie Kostecki wins his first Supercars race in Melbourne

Race 2 start of Melbourne Supercars weekend delayed due to qualifying F3. The race was interrupted even before the end of the first lap after contact between James Courtney (Pickford Racing) and David Reynolds (Whole grained Racing), which ends up in a gravel trap.

Reynolds, who had crossed the line in 2nd position, will be penalized for this contact and will fall to 22nd position! On a wet track, Van Gisbergen, despite being a pole-sitter, was quickly overtaken by Will Brown (Erebus Motorsport).

He nevertheless remains in the wake of the leader when the Safety Car releases the pack. SVG then placed an attack on Brown and the two cars went a little wide from turn four giving Brodie Kostecki an opportunity which he immediately seized.

The Erebus driver took control of the race, Van Gisbergen falling to 6th position. The New Zealand giant will manage to move up to 3rd position.

It was then the first salvo of pit stops during which Kostecki retained the lead of the event. His opponents came to the pits a lap later. At the same time, Jack Le Brock smashes his Matt Stone Racing team Camaro into the wall. The Safety Car makes its appearance on the track again and will never leave it again.

Chaz Mostert (Walkinshaw Andretti United) crossed the finish line in 5th place, but inherited 4th place following a penalty inflicted on one of his competitors.

Mostert retains the lead in the general classification by 11 small points. After 4 races, the triple Supercars champion Van Gisbergen, who had lost his first victory of the year on the green carpet, is 4th in the same classification.

There are still two races to go in Albert Park, the next one is scheduled for tomorrow morning at 8:25 a.m. French time.
