FIA GT World Cup – Farfus will defend his title with Eriksson and BMW

BMW is the first manufacturer to confirm its presence at the FIA GT World Cup, contested on the formidable Guia circuit in Macau (November 14-17, 2019). The Bavarian brand will enter two examples of the M6 GT3 for the experienced Augusto Farfus and the young Joel Eriksson.

The Brazilian returns to the land of his last success for the former boss of the Schnitzer team, Charly Lamm, who died in the winter of 2019. “It will be a very special event for me, recognizes the title holder. Last year was one of the highlights of my career. Winning with Charly, my mentor, my friend, who was very close to me and my family, it was really unique.

This time I hope to repeat this success in his memory. We know it will be a real challenge, but this will be the third time we have driven the M6 GT3 and I have gained enough experience. We will do our best”, he warns.

The presence of Augusto Farfus comes as a surprise if we take into account his commitment to Hyundai in the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR). The Brazilian was initially announced as exclusively present in the WTCR in Macau.

He will be accompanied by Joel Eriksson. The 21-year-old Swede, used to DTM with BMW, knows Macau better through the Formula 3 Grand Prix (2nd in 2018). « I fell in love with this layout with the F3, and I can't wait to come back this time with the Fist-Team AAI team. It's hard to predict what to expect. I will need a certain level of adaptation. »

The Macau Grand Prix, the 66th edition of which will be held in November 2019, is located a few kilometers from Hong Kong, where strong popular protest has taken place since the summer. The organizers confirmed to AUTOhebdo that the event would take place.
