Darren Cox switches to virtual competition

We had left Darren cox on a failure in Endurance with Nissan's LM P1 program (but a success with the GT-R Nismo GT3 in Blancpain GT Series) last year. The Briton is now relaunching with a new project, anchored in video games and eSport competitions, by founding his team eSPORTS + CARS.

Electronic sport has experienced significant development for several years, driven in particular by real-time management-strategy video games, and even sports simulations. Motor racing has not escaped this, as evidenced by the desire of Sony and Polyphony Digital, creator of the famous Gran Turismo series, to get closer to the FIA and eSport with the future iteration Gran Turismo Sport.

“The eSport + CARS Racing team is a first step in the professionalization of motorsport in the virtual world, Cox explains. We want to use the team to highlight the huge opportunity that is virtual motorsport and we will do this by trying to take the approach of the best teams and brands in the real world of motorsport.

Ultimately, we want to have the best virtual drivers from around the world, playing together across all platforms, on every type of racing game, but also attending eSports events, working and competing as a team, and engaging with each other. the fans. Why that ? Because I see it as a very exciting first step in bringing new fans to the stands – whether they are at eSports events or at Silverstone. »

eSPORTS +CARS has already established partnerships with Greaves Motorsport.

[…] Cox’s role in the formation of GT Academy and the launch of the Mardenborough race is covered in the grand tourism movie. However, while in the film Mardenborough keeps his real name, Cox’s character is so fictional that the writers changed his name to Danny Moore, played by Legolas actor Orlando Bloom. During his tenure at Nissan, following the success of the GT Academy, Cox also spearheaded the Nissan Deltawing, the Le Mans record-breaking electric Nissan ZEOD, the Juke R prototype, the LMP2 and LMP3 engine programs, and the Nissan LMP1 program. In 2016, after leaving Nissan, Cox stayed in the world of gamers-turned-racers and founded the first professional esports racing team, eSPORTS+CARS (via AutoHebdo). […]

[…] Cox's paper trained the GT Academy and launched Mardenborough's career in the film Gran Turismo. No, while the film Mardenborough is cast only as a verdadeiro, the character Cox is fictional or sufficient for the actors to be portrayed only by Danny Moore, interpreter of Legolas, Orlando Bloom. During its Nissan mandate, after the success of GT Academy, Cox also leads the Nissan Deltawing, the Nissan ZEOD electric record at Le Mans, the Juke R prototype, the LMP2 and LMP3 engine programs and the Nissan LMP1 program.
