Maserati-Corvette duel in Portimao

The Portimao circuit, after welcoming the grid of Le Mans Series at the beginning of August, will once again welcome the world of endurance, for the sixth round of the FIA ​​GT championship. After five events, two crews are fighting for first place. Currently, the reigning champions, Andrea Bertolini and Michael Bartels are dominating the proceedings, thanks to their victory at the Hungaroring on August 30. The drivers of the Maserati MC 12 n°1 of the Vitaphone team are in an ideal situation before tackling the final events of the season.

But Anthony Kumpen and Mike Hezemans remain in ambush. The drivers of the Corvette C6.R from the PK Carsport team have won twice this season, at Oschersleben but especially in Belgium during the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. Showing consistency, the Belgian-Dutch duo is only four points behind the crew leading the championship (41 against 37).

It is the selective Portimao route which will allow the GT drivers to decide between themselves, on a circuit which does not allow a moment of respite with its fast and bumpy curves. However, there will be no crowds in Portugal since the entry list for the Algarve round only includes twenty cars, nine cars in GT, eleven in GT2. The race (Sunday from 15:15 p.m. to 17:15 p.m.) should once again feature a duel between the three Maserati MC 12s from the Vitaphone team against the four Corvette C6.Rs.
