And two for Kenseth

After a 2008 season without any success, Matt Kenseth started the 2009 championship in the best way by signing two victories in two races! The last to have achieved such a feat is Jeff Gordon, who, in 1997, won at Daytona then at Rockingham the following week. He will also finish in second place this Sunday, after having given everything in the last laps to put pressure on the leader of the race, in vain.

“We had the car to win the race, but Matt was incredible both in the pits and on the track. At the last stop we made a small adjustment but I don't think that's what stopped us from going for the victory. When I tried to pass it inside I kept telling myself I could do it, but my car became more and more understeer,” Gordon said.

“I tried every possible direction, but the car just wouldn't turn. With twenty laps to go I knew that if Matt didn't make a mistake it was impossible for me to catch him,” added the driver of the Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.

Indeed, Kenseth was unquestionably the best in the last part of the event, thanks to the quick refuelings carried out by his mechanics and an excellent top speed when he was alone in the lead. He will take command on lap 216, during the last neutralization and after another record stop. The Roush Fenway Racing driver will cross the line with a lead of 1,463 seconds over his pursuer.

In the end, Gordon beat Kyle Busch by one step on the podium, the latter not being far from achieving a "hat trick" after winning the rounds of the Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series, the two other divisions of the Nascar, this same weekend.

Greg Biffle, well placed throughout the race, finished just behind after losing time during the last refueling. Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin, Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart follow.

Juan-Pablo Montoya, author of a good race, took eleventh place, while Mark Martin, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Aric Almirola and Scott Speed all retired following engine problems.
