Eric Trémoulet: “More confident with the Porsche 718 Cayman”

By making available its new 718 Cayman GT4 for this 2019 season, Porsche hoped to conquer new market shares on the French scene, after having been one of the most represented brands since 2017 and the advent of the category in France.

But it is clear that this start to the 2019 campaign at Nogaro, as part of the Easter Cups, undoubtedly did not meet Weissach's expectations. Only three examples of this new iteration of the 718 Cayman will be at the start, for Cool Racing, AGS Events and Team Jouffruit by Vic'Team.

The latter will try to reproduce its great 2018 season, with the status of best Porsche team with its tandem Eric Trémoulet – Olivier Jouffret.

“We received the car a little late, but we were able to practice last week, Eric Trémoulet confided to us in the Gers paddock. The two cars are quite similar, and the 718 offers 40 hp more: that's the biggest difference.

It is also more aerodynamically worked, but on a circuit like Nogaro, this does not have much influence. This will be more visible in Spa or Magny-Cours. Mechanically, it is more accomplished.

It is especially the braking which has been significantly improved. We don't brake better or later, but we feel more confident with the car. »

A point which had been widely raised since 2017 by several teams, and which Porsche therefore seems to have taken into consideration for its new model. The Vic-Fezensac team did not hesitate for long to acquire the 718 Cayman, given the situation of the French plateau.

« The old Cayman was reaching the end of its run, analyzes the boss-pilot. La Mercedes is operated by AKKA-ASP, Audi by Saintéloc, structures which have a real link with the manufacturer.

Same for Alpine with CMR. We felt that staying with Porsche, with whom relations are good and given the end of the 2018 season, was best for us. »

Eric Trémoulet and his troops logically chose to return to France, with the idea of aiming for the leading roles, in a championship which remains an objective for the former champion Renault Clio Cup.

“If we had won it in the first year, maybe we would have thought about doing Europe, or looking towards GT3. However, we would really like to do something in GT4. The question has not really arisen, even if we always look at what is happening elsewhere. »
