Macau GP: no 12th victory for Huff

As the regulations of many touring car championships stipulate, the second race of the weekend is contested with the starting grid reversed. Holder of pole position for race 1, Rob Huff logically starts from the 5th row in 10th place. The top position goes to the VW Lamando L (equivalent to the Passat in the West) of Hua Yang Gao. From the start and the long Mandarin straight, Huff managed to regain four places. At the Lisboa corner which determines the entire climb towards the upper part of the circuit, the MG No. 79 is ideally placed to aim for a place on the podium. In the lead, pole sitter Gao manages to maintain control of the race ahead of the Lynk & Co 03 of Chang Yuan.

The safety car intervened on the second lap following several competitors going off the track at various places on the circuit. On the fifth lap the race is restarted and Huff goes on the attack, he gets rid of Zhu (Lynk & Co). The outgoing CTCC champion Zhi Qiang Zhang is threatening race leader Gio who will have to give up his place due to mechanical problems. The Englishman was then 4th then quickly 3rd after overtaking his teammate Rodolfo Freitas in the ultra-fast right turn at the Mandarin Hotel. It makes short work of Yan Chuang's Lynk & Co 03. He then came up against Zhang's exhausts during the last three laps.

The Chinese driver will win and win his 3rd victory in Macau ahead of Rob Huff who takes a very good 2nd place proving that overtaking in town is largely possible. It would be a shame if the TCR World Tour, whose debut is scheduled for 2023 and of which Macau would be one of the last races, were to deprive itself of the talent and enthusiasm of Rob Huff. We can bet that MG will take its courage in both hands and decide to enter at least one MG2 Xpower TCR for the Briton throughout the season. For this 5 edition, the victory is therefore for Zhang followed by Huff and Gao. With a victory and a podium, the results of the Briton's trip are more than positive.
