Putting a Gulf livery on a racing car is always a good idea. This adage is confirmed with the decorations worn by GPX Racing during the GT World Challenge Europe 2020.
Two Porsche 911 GT3 R will be entered in the events of theEndurance Cup. No. 12 (two arrows and a diamond) will be piloted by the French Patrick Pilet and Mathieu Jaminet as well as the Australian Matt Campbell. No. 40 (an orange arrow and a clover) will be dedicated to Romain Dumas, Thomas Preining and Louis Delétraz. This Swiss will, however, have to give up his seat to Dennis Olsen during the Nürburgring round due to a clash with the Formula 2.
As for the No. 36 (a triangle and a heart), it must adorn the grids of the European GT in various races without its schedule being stopped due to the evolution of the calendars of the Covid-19 pandemic.
You will notice that each decoration varies. It's normal, each Porsche uses the design released by the German manufacturer during the 1970 Targa Florio. This event, which disappeared in 1977, then consisted of covering 11 times a circuit of… 71,8 km in the mountains of Sicily ( Italy) !
An extraordinary race that Porsche won 50 years ago thanks to the John Wyer Automotive Engineering team and the duo composed of the Swiss Jo Siffert and the Englishman Brian Redman. Their car, the 908/03, had a 8 liter flat-3.0 engine. The power did not exceed 350 horsepower but the prototype stood out for its featherweight: 500 kg!
