The outcome seemed almost inevitable. Faced with a number of entries that have not followed the efforts made by Oreca to increase the field of the French Championships FFSA-GT and FFSA Protos after the difficult first round of Nogaro then the cancellation of the Lédenon event, the promoter with the agreement of the FFSA, took the decision to cancel the remainder of the races of the 2016 FFSA GT and Prototype French Championships, planned for Magny-Cours, Le Mans, Imola and the Circuit Paul Ricard.

“Canceling the French FFSA GT and Prototype Championships is a very difficult decision to make but there was no other feasible alternative, explains Hugues de Chaunac, president of Oreca. We have done everything we could for several months to find and convince more competitors. Despite the support of the current teams, we did not succeed and this is why the championship cannot continue as it stands.

Through this decision taken in agreement with the FFSA, we wanted to act responsibly, with concern for the image of French motorsport and with respect for the spectators, to whom quality races must be offered.

The French Championship has always been close to our hearts, at ORECA, but also on a personal level. It's a real disappointment. This season, we are continuing our work on the GT Tour event with the aim of offering four quality stages. »

The remaining rounds of the GT Tour will, however, host the Porsche Carrera Cup France, French F4 Championship, Peugeot RCZ Racing Cup, the French Supertouring Championship, the Mitjet 2L and the Renault Clio Cup. Oreca will not continue its role as promoter in 2017.
