Guilvert-Michal survivors of a pileup in Pau

The start of Race 2 of the French Championship FFSAGT in Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), Sunday May 19, reminded us: in the Béarnaise city, the slightest deviation in conduct can be very costly. An impressive pileup led to the appearance of the red flag as soon as the green light was passed:

Seven GT4s were left behind. The leader of the general classification, Pierre-Alexandre Jean (Alpine) did not increase the pace as expected. While trying to overtake him, Christopher Capello (Ginetta) touched Pierre Courroye (Alpine) et Éric Trémoulet (Porsche). Le jeu de quilles contre les rails a stoppé l’élan de Ricardo van der Ende (BMW), mais aussi de Thomas Drouet (Mercedes) and Nicolas Schatz (Ginetta).

Fortunately, all drivers involved escaped unhurt. Christopher Capello simply had a medical check-up for ankle pain.

In the narrow pit lane, Benoît Lison (Alpine, teammate of Vincent Beltoise) took the opportunity to move up to second place, while Éric Debard (Audi, teammate of Simon Gachet) slipped off the podium. The latter regained the advantage over Robert Consani (Alpine) despite the latter's attempt to respond to take third position.

In front, Fabien Michal only had to control the overtaking of the backmarkers to sign the first victory of the 2019 season. The reigning champions carried out an excellent operation in the general classification, simply taking control.

The first Mercedes is that of young Arthur Rougier and Édouard Cauhaupé, sixth. The winners of Race 1, Steven Palette and Michael Blanchemain (Audi, 7th) finished just ahead of Nicolas Cheers and Jean-Charles Révélé (Alpine, 8th).

Local native Mike Parisy (Mercedes) moved up to ninth place alongside Fabien Barthez. Julien Lambert and Nicolas Gomar (Porsche) win the Am category (11th)
