Corvette No. 4 wins under the flood

« It?s very important for me to have won pole at Oschersleben, which is my national race. The team did a superb job on the car. The settings were perfect for qualifying and I didn't think I could be in the lead with a three-tenths lead over the Saleen. » Alex Müller could indeed be satisfied on Saturday, after taking first place on the starting grid for “his” race. But he did not imagine that this work would be reduced to nothing at the first turn. Sandwiched by the Corvette C6.R of Xavier Maassen (Luc Alphand Aventures) and the Saleen S7 of Karl Wendlinger (K Plus K), the No. 12 Maserati MC 2 makes a mistake at the first chicane with its two rivals. Fortunately for the three men, their race did not end there, with only Maassen having to return to the pits for a summary repair.

This incident gave the lead to the No. 6 Corvette C4.R of Hezemans, who increased this position. Behind, the C6.R of Longin was overtaken, after ten minutes of racing, by the Saleen of Dominguez. At the same time, Alex Müller, frustrated at having been relegated to the back of the peloton, strives to make up for the time lost in the collision. He continues fast laps and daring overtakes, among others on the Ford GT of Kuppens and the Saleen of Lemeret. The rain then appears, at first slowly, but will influence the progress of the race. By attacking to get back in front, Müller will garden? in the grass but can return to the track.

When the rain starts to fall intensely, the race takes a different turn and visits to the gravel traps multiply. Wendlinger (Saleen no. 14) and Longin (Corvette no. 3) are among the trapped drivers and lose precious seconds following their errors. James Ruffier (Corvette no. 3), who was able to take advantage of an error by Ramos (Maserati no. 2), continues the ball of track exits and falls back in the hierarchy. As for Sharp, having taken over from Wendlinger, he is in third position, after overtaking Ramos, behind Kumpen (Corvette no. 4) and Bartels (Maserati no. 1).

Despite a few errors which still caused some competitors to lose a few seconds, the order no longer seems to want to move at the head of the race. Except when Karl Wendlinger?s Saleen S7 stopped at the side of the track less than a minute from the end of the race. Winner of the Silverstone race, the crew of the K Plus K team has not enjoyed success since. It is therefore the No. 6 Corvette C4.R of Hezemans/Kumpen which wins, ahead of the reigning champion team, Bertolini/Bartels (No. 1 Maserati), who performs very well after the start of the race. winded.
