Unveiled on the grounds of the German team two weeks ago, on the sidelines of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, the new version of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 will be entered in the race this weekend as part of the 24 Hours of Portimão in Portugal, round counting for the 24H Series.
Operated by the Mercedes-AMG Team Driving Academy, the car will be entrusted to crew Maximilian Buhk, Hubert Haupt, Kenneth Heyer, Charles Putman and Rik Breukers. The opportunity for Mercedes to carry out a full-scale test for its latest addition before its distribution to the top endurance teams at the end of 2019.
“It is important for us to receive direct feedback from our customers early on so that we can apply final touches during future testing. » underlines Stefan Wendl, boss of the AMG Customer Racing division.
This evolution of the previous GT3 includes redesigned front and rear wings to be more aggressive, optimized ABS for better traction control and improved comfort thanks to more efficient ventilation. The German manufacturer nevertheless specifies that this AMG GT3 is designed to be less expensive, in order to help the teams competing in the various GT championships.
