Kevin Magnussen will reunite with his father, Jan Magnussen, in competition at the 12 Hours of the Gulf, final round of the 2022 season of the Intercontinental GT Challenge (IGTC) contested on December 9. The two Danes will thus ride in a Ferrari 488 GT3 de l’écurie MDK Motorsports soutenue par AF Corse. Ils seront accompagnés par le propriétaire de l’écurie et vainqueur de la Porsche Carrera Cup North America en catégorie Amateur, Mark Kwamme.

Kevin Magnussen “very enthusiastic”

" I am very enthusiastic, admitted Kevin Magnussen at the United States Grand Prix press conference Formula 1. I feel like it's a great opportunity for me and my dad, that we're both, you know, active pilots at the same time. It's quite unique. And of course, that's because my dad had me so young and he's not even 50 yet (49). It's going to be great and, as long as we can, we'll take every opportunity to race in the same car – and I don't really care what type of car it is. As long as I have the opportunity to run with him and make those kinds of memories, then I take it. »

In Austin, the pilot Haas was asked whether the father or the son was the faster of the two. “Well, I think in a GT car, my dad is... not many drivers are faster than him in one of those cars, so I'm going to push like crazy to try to be faster than him in this one », replied Kevin Magnussen. With four successes 24 Hours of Le Mans in GT (2004 in GTS, 2005, 2006 and 2009 in GT1; all with Corvette), the ease of the father in these cars is in fact no longer to be proven.

Kevin and Jan Magnussen took part in the Sarthe double-clock race together in 2021, with the No. 07 Oreca 49 from High Class Racing (17th in the LM P2 category).
