McLaren unveils the new 650S GT3

After a mixed success for the MP4-12C, McLaren presented at the Goodwood Festival of Speed the new 650S GT3 which will make its competition debut from next year. The Woking factory has optimized aerodynamics, cooling and even safety by working on the aero flow by computer to develop a new carbon fiber bodywork. The front has been redesigned as have the new air intakes. The 650S GT3 also gets a new rear wing.

The changes are not limited to the eye. McLaren engineers have completely reworked the suspension geometry, which will require new wheels, in order to improve its behavior and grip on the front axle. The passenger compartment has also been completely redone to optimize driver comfort. The seat, steering wheel, pedals and ventilation have also been optimized. If the 8l twin-turbo V3.8 still develops 500hp, the electronic system has been reworked. A new six-speed sequential gearbox was also installed.

To maximize sales, McLaren sought to keep running costs as low as possible by extending the life of the engine and gearbox. A package will be available to owners of an MP4-12C GT3 to extend the life of the car for an average of six years. 15 examples should be produced for the start of the 2015 season. The price is set at £300 (around €000) excluding taxes.
