Michelisz on C1 pole at Sepang ahead of Panis, Muller in the tough

Norbert Michelisz (Hyundai) took a small step towards the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) title this Friday, December 13. The Hungarian actually took pole position for Race 1 in Sepang (Malaysia) without the shadow of a dispute.

Leader in the championship before this final, the representative of the South Korean brand thus obtains the 5 points reserved for the pole sitter. Enough to increase his lead to 14 points over Esteban Guerrieri (Honda) and 16 points over Yvan Muller (Lynk&Co).

Both challengers performed poorly. Esteban Guerrieri is only 10th while his friend and teammate at Münnich Motorsport Nestor Girolami will start 3rd.

At Cyan Racing, Yvan Muller struggled to get the 16th fastest time, with a car clearly not at all comfortable on the Asian track.

The French clan will rather remember the very fine performance ofAurelien Panis (Cupra), credited with the second time. Olivier Panis' son has never been so well placed in WTCR qualifying.

Among the other Tricolores, Jean-Karl Vernay (Audi) is 18th and Yann Ehrlacher (Lynk&Co), 24th.

The second qualifying session will be held at night at 19:30 p.m. local time and 12:30 p.m. French time.
