Daniil Kvyat relaunches in NASCAR

Daniil Kvyat poses in front of Team Hezeberg's Toyota Camry

The old pilot F1 Toro Rosso, Red Bull and AlphaTauri, Daniil Kvyat, will pilot the Toyota Team Hezeberg Camry No. 26. Loris Hezemans will drive the Team's second car bearing the number 27, the same car with which Jacques Villeneuve brilliantly qualified for the Daytona 500 miles at the start of the season.

Daniil Kvyat

Like Tom Thumb, Daniil had sown clues throughout the week by publishing a video of the test of a NASCAR old generation of Reaume Brothers Racing (a technical partner of Hezeberg) on the Hickory oval and a photo molding his seat at the Team Hezeberg premises.

With 110 starts and 3 podiums in F1, the 28-year-old driver is certainly not a beginner, but it is difficult to know what his level of performance will be, he who has not participated in any event in recent months and will discover the discipline and driving a Next Gen on the circuit. The first attempts should be informative. Kvyat was expected to make his debut in Endurance with G-Drive this season, but the team withdrew following sanctions targeting Russian athletes following the invasion of Ukraine.

As NASCAR is not linked in any way to the FIA, the possibility for the Russian driver to participate in an event remained open. However, it is surprising to see one of the oldest and conservative automotive disciplines accepting a Russian driver with open arms in the current geopolitical context. Embarrassed Haas who will share the common garage with the Hezeberg team will appreciate the situation. This Wednesday morning, NASCAR had still not officially reacted to this announcement, although Daniil Kvyat appears on the entry list for this 22nd round of the season.

For the rest of the season Kvyat will meet up at Watkins Glen on August 21 with Kimi Räikkönen who will ride for Trackhouse Racing Team. He is expected to conclude his 3-race program at the Roval in Charlotte on October 9.
