A prototype of NASCAR electric will make its first public appearance on February 4, as part of the festivities surrounding the Clash at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, several American media announced.

The car was tested twice in private test drives, before being unveiled to the general public in Southern California next weekend. It was first tested only in a straight line during the summer at Charlotte Motor Speedway's zMax Dragway and was tested on track in December at Martinsville Speedway.

The electric NASCAR, a photo of which leaked on social media last November, is now equipped with headlights and would have the potential to reach speeds equivalent to those of the current generation of the NASCAR Cup Series at Martinsville.

The car reportedly completed 340 laps in three days at Martinsville, the half-mile short circuit in southern Virginia, while being driven by David Ragan. NASCAR says the optimal battery performance range is not 100%, but is currently between 30 and 80%. At the end of the test, NASCAR says the prototype was within "a few tenths" of the times of current Cup Series cars, which share the same basic chassis and platform under its shell.
