Nascar – Edwards shines at Richmond before the Chase

Carl Edwards (Roush Fenway Racing) takes his second victory of the season by winning the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond International Speedway. The driver of the No. 99 Ford, already assured for the Chase, took advantage of the last neutralization to win for the first time on this oval and celebrate the 21st victory of his career in the Sprint Cup. The Roush Fenway driver finally crossed the finish line in front of Kurt Busch, while Ryan Newman's third place caused him to fall one point behind Joey Logano (Penske Racing) who snatched the last place for the final fight with his 22nd place.

The final yellow flag, caused by a spin by Clint Bowyer (Michael Waltrip Racing), changed the fight for the Chase. Jeff Gordon (Hendrick Motorsport), who was in seventh place before the neutralization, was previously able to qualify for the final part of the season. But the evolution of the ranking caused the driver of the No. 24 Chevrolet to fail while Martin Truex Jr (Michael Waltrip Racing) took the opportunity to take the last place from Wilcard after having won at Michigan.

With his five victories, Matt Kenseth (Roush Fenway Racing) enters the Chase as the new leader ahead of Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports) and Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing). Other qualifiers are Kevin Harvick (Richard Childress Racing), Carl Edwards, Joey Logano, Greg Biffle (Roush Fenway Racing), Clint Bowyer, Dale Earnhardt Jr (Hendrick Motorsports) and Kurt Busch. The two wilcards are Kasey Kahne (Hendrick Motorsports) and Martin Truex Jr.
