Nascar – Gordon will replace Earnhardt Jr

Jeff Gordon will be back in Nascar Sprint Cup. The four-time champion will replace Dale Earnhardt Jr for the next two races in Indianapolis and Pocono (Pennsylvania). While the former driver of the No. 24 Chevrolet retired at the end of last year, after 23 seasons contested at the highest level of the discipline, the resident of the Hendrick will return to service after seven months away from the flying.

“Jeff is a team player, explained team owner Rick Hendrick. I know he will be ready and I also know that Dale has absolute confidence in him. It will be a special weekend since Dale will not be present and Jeff will put his helmet back on. »

Dale Earnhardt Jr has already missed the last event in New Hampshire due to concussion-like symptoms. The son of the seven-time champion who suffered from this type of injury in 2012 will not make the trip for the next two events.

“Our priority is to give Dale all the time he needs to recover, adds Rick Hendrick. Above all, we want to see him behind the wheel again, but we will continue to listen to the doctors. What's best for Dale is best for Hendrick Motorsports and the entire staff. We are proud of him and can't wait to see him racing again soon. »

Dale Earnhardt Jr fell to 14th position in the Championship. The Hendrick driver has yet to win a race this season that could guarantee him a place in the Chase which will include the top 16 in the Drivers' standings at the end of the regular season at Richmond (September 10).
