Nascar – Johnson wins with strategy in Atlanta

Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports) signs another victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway (Georgia) where he had already won in 2015 after benefiting from an excellent strategy developed by his team leader Chad Knaus who decided to anticipate the final stop of the No. 48 Chevrolet.

The six-time champion had to resist the return of the peloton at the end of the race following the second interruption of the 500-mile event. The Hendrick driver maintained the advantage over Kevin Harvick (Stewart-Haas Racing), the biggest leader of the race who seemed well on his way to winning, before the race was ended following a pile-up. Jimmie Johnson thus won his 76th victory in Nascar Sprint Cup and ties Dale Earnhardt Sr's record.

The son of the seven-time champion takes second place and thus secures a double for Hendrick. Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs) completes the top three after making a slow comeback in the peloton following his disqualification while taking pole. Kurt Busch (Stewart-Haas Racing) and Carl Edwards (Joe Gibbs Racing) complete the top five ahead of Kevin Harvick.
