Nascar – Truex Jr crushes the competition at Dover

Martin Truex Jr (Furniture Row Racing) scored his third victory in five races by dominating the Citizen Soldiers 400 in Dover, Delaware after leading for almost half the event. Unusually, the race was only interrupted four times on the “Monster Mile”.

Only six cars finished in the winner's lap: Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing), Chase Elliott (Hendrick Motorsports), Brad Keselowski (Team Penske), Matt Kenseth (Joe Gibbs Racing) and Joey Logano (Team Penske).

Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports) appeared well on his way to an 11th victory at Dover, with the six-time champion holding the record for success on the one-mile oval, but the driver of the No. 48 Chevrolet lost a lap following a penalty following an error by one of its mechanics who climbed over the wall too early.

The Citizen Soldiers 400 marked the end of the first of three rounds of the Chase. It's the end of Tony Stewart's ambitions (Stewart-Haas Racing) who is playing his last season in Nascar Sprint Cup, Chris Buescher (Front Row Motorsports) and the two Chip Ganassi Racing drivers Kyle Larson and Jamie McMurray.
