Nascar Xfinity – Rain benefits Alon Day at Mid-Ohio

2015 vice-champion of Nascar Whelen Euro Series, the Israeli Alon Day joined the Next program this year, which seeks the young talents of tomorrow in Nascar, and was offered the opportunity to make his debut in the second division of the American championship in the Xfinity Series this weekend at the Mid-Ohio road test.

Aligned with the No. 40 MBM Motorsports Dodge Challenger, the current fourth in the 2016 Whelen standings did not disappoint for his first steps in Xfinity. At the end of an event largely disrupted by rain, Day rose to 13th place, after having remained in the top 10 for a while.

“I knew I had the speed to attack as soon as possible [after the rain arrived], commented the Israeli at a press conference. From the first restart, I started to attack immediately.

I knew some riders would be a little slow in the rain. I have some experience in the rain in Europe, where we are used to riding in these conditions. My expectations weren't very high to be honest. A 25th place would have satisfied me, and finally fighting for the first places is not so bad. »

Alon Day is due to compete in the Road America race on August 27, but could also compete in other events, if funding is found by then.
