First pole of the 2019 season for Yvan Muller

Yvan Muller (Lynk & Co) snatched pole position for Race 1 of the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) in Ningbo (China) by just five hundredths. The Alsatian beat stage local Ma Qing Hua (Alfa Romeo) at the end of the qualifying session.

“The first part of the job is done, now we have to confirm this in the race, explained the Cyan Racing driver. It's a circuit where it's difficult to overtake, but anything can happen. The test will be interesting. »

Already at ease during the second free practice session, the Spaniard Mikel Azcona (Cupra) will start from third place, ahead of one of the favorites for the title, Norbert Michelisz (Hyundai). The Hungarian benefits from a three-place penalty addressed to championship leader Esteban Guerrieri (Honda, 12th) after a collision during the previous round in Portugal.

On the French side, Aurélien Panis (Cupra) set the seventh fastest time. Yann Ehrlacher (Lynk & Co) will be 15th on the starting grid, and Jean-Karl Vernay (Audi) 21st.

WTCR Race 1 in Ningbo begins at 9:40 a.m. French time on Saturday 14 September.
