We know more about the TCR World Tour, successor to the late WTCR. The outlines of the new world tourism championship have just been revealed.
Contested over 9 rounds spread across various TCR series (Europe, Italy, South America, Australia), the World Tour will welcome a maximum of 16 drivers per year. The best 15 will qualify for a grand final which willshould take place in Saudi Arabia at the end of 2023. They will be joined by the 15 best drivers ranked in the TCR World Ranking.
These competitors will all come from the different national or continental championships running under TCR regulations. The serious things are about to begin as the closing date for registrations for the season is February 28.
For the moment, Lynk & Co (which should enter with a new model) and Audi via Comtoyou Racing have confirmed their participation with four cars entered each. We are still waiting for confirmation from Honda, which has just presented its all-new Civic Type R-TCR.
Great news! We have finalized deals for TCR WORLD TOUR's South American events #AutodromoElPinar in Uruguay🇺🇾 and #SanLuis in Argentina🇦🇷. @TCR_Series #TCRWorldTour #TCRWorldRanking @tcrsouthamerica pic.twitter.com/nlDQYEj2QL

Qualifications are played in two parts for each event. A 1-minute Q20 for all drivers will be followed by a ten-minute session for the twelve fastest drivers.
This system will be used throughout the season with the exception of the Macau final, where the two sessions last 30 minutes and 15 minutes.
The course of the races will be different depending on the events. All rounds organized as part of TCR Europe will be contested in the format of two races of 55 km each.
For races held in South America, the format will feature two 30-minute races plus one lap. In Australia, after a qualifying race, competitors will take part in three races (of 21 laps each). Finally, Macau will use the same race format as the TCR Europe with two 55 km races.
The points system is quite similar to that known in WTCR. The qualification will also bring in its share of units. World Tour competitors do not score points in the local series in which they compete.
Here is the points scale for the year 2023:
Qualifications: 1st/15 pts; 2nd/10 points; 3rd/8 points; 4th/6 points; 5th/4 points; 6th/2 points
Races: 1st/30 pts; 2nd/25 points; 3rd/22 points; 4th/20 points; 5th/18 points; 6th/16 points; 7th/14 points; 8th/12 points; 9th/10 points; 10th/8 points; 11th/6 points; 12th/4 points; 13th/3 points; 14th/2 points; 15th/1 point
Concerning the sporting regulations, competitors must respect the rules of the series in which they participate.
The World Tour drivers are subject to their own weight compensation system, separate from that of the event hosting them.
TCR World Tour full season drivers will receive the compensation weight based on the fastest qualifying times set at the previous event (0-40kg weight per 10kg load).
At the end of the regular season, Kumho, the sole tire supplier, will reward the best driver and the best team before competing in the grand world final.
