PWC – Vincent Abril: “The logical continuation with Bentley”

After the Bathurst 12 Hours at the start of the year, here is now the United States and the SprintX championship, as part of the Pirelli World Challenge, on Vincent Abril's menu. Le Gardois, official Bentley Motorsport driver, is adding the series across the Atlantic to his main program in the Blancpain GT Series in Europe.

Abril will compete in the Bentley Team Absolute Continental GT3 this weekend in Virginia. A new experience hoped for by the 2015 Sprint Cup champion with HTP and Bentley, who thus opens his career to other horizons after having traveled the European circuits.

“An opportunity like racing in a foreign championship with Bentley Team Absolute is clearly the logical continuation that I expected in the medium term with Bentley Motorsport, explains Abril.

I am lucky to have an exceptional program in Europe with always the objective of winning the 24 Hours of Spa and winning a second title in Blancpain, and to this are now added these experiences like the Pirelli World Sprint to USA.

Now that I have the calendar that I have been hoping for for several years, it is up to me to make it a reality with the prize list that goes with it. »

In duet with Adderly Fong

In SprintX, the teams field two drivers per car, with crews that can be grouped into the Pro, Pro-Am or Am category. The Frenchman will team up with driver from Hong Kong Adderly Fong, former Lotus development driver F1 team.

With Team Absolute and the Continental GT3, the latter distinguished itself at the end of 2016 by winning the trophy reserved for drivers not entered by a manufacturer during the last FIA GT World Cup in Macau.

“I look forward to sharing the wheel with Adderly Fong who has impressed me several times with his performance, and who is a very complete driver, comments Olivier Panis’ protégé. We will therefore have to be consistent over the five SprintX races, and obtain as many podiums as possible.”
