Rick Kelly: “Different challenges from what I’m used to in Supercars”

The experience of Bathurst and the Mount Panorama route, Rick Kelly don't miss it. Twice winner of the legendary Bathurst 1000 Supercars event in 2003 and 2004, the champion of the specialty in 2006, will be one of the drivers of theAston Martin Vantage GT3 – R-Motorsport Bathurst 12 Hours with Scott Dixon and Jake Dennis.

If Dennis shone on the clock of the Intercontiental GT Challenge this year (2nd), Dixon will make his big debut and will be able to count on the knowledge of the circuit of Kelly, who for his part will have to reconnect with a category that he has not attended Bathurst since 2016.

That year, Kelly drove a Nismo Athlete Global Team Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 to second place in the event with Katsumasa Chiyo and Florian Strauss.

“I am watching this event closely, with keen interest in a return, it is a great race with many different challenges to what I am used to in Supercars at Bathurst, explains the 36-year-old pilot.

Most pilots agree that visiting Bathurst just once a year is not enough. So having the chance to take the Aston Martin on the mountain is something I'm really looking forward to. In places where we brake in Supercars, these guys accelerate. It’s going to be a great challenge!

I've been working with the R-Motorsport team behind the scenes for several months now to put this project together and it's been a real pleasure working with them, so I'm really looking forward to being part of their team at this meeting. »

Rick Kelly will therefore celebrate 2020 with a first new challenge with Aston Martin, before moving into the seat of a Ford Mustang in Supercars, Kelly Racing, former arm of Nissan in the series, having decided to move into the clan of blue oval next year.
