Spa: Maserati takes the lead

With terrible weather conditions, everything ultimately came down to the first of three rounds of the qualifying session. And yet, the deluge hit in the first minutes. In these conditions, the Maserati drivers were the most comfortable, with Alex Müller setting the best time (2:18:030). Already pole-sitter at Oschersleben, the German driver hoped to continue his good momentum. The other two Maserati MC 12s completed the provisional podium while in GT2, the Ferrari 430 n°50 from the AF Corse team took the lead. In total, most of the cars had only completed 4, 5 or 6 laps, the rain leading the teams to leave the cars in their box.

If the sky calmed down during the second phase of qualifying, the soggy circuit did not allow any improvement, seeing the drivers set times well beyond their first references. The third session provided the same observation, with all the cars not even entering the track, knowing that the times could not be improved. The results of the first round were therefore used to establish the starting grid positions for the 24 Hours of Spa. The No. 2, No. 33 and No. 1 Maseratis will therefore start in the lead in GT1, while in GT2, the No. 430 Ferrari 50 from the AF Corse team will be ahead of the No. 430 F55 from CRS Racing on the grid.
