SRO will launch a GT Championship in France

Stéphane Ratel, director of SRO Motorsports Group, was quick to react following the Easter Cups in Nogaro (Gers). Surprised by the weakness of the field where only nine cars were present, the director of the Blancpain GT Series decided to launch a new GT Championship mainly contested in France “in order to avoid seeing the GT category disappear from the national territory”, according to the dedicated press release.

SRO specifies that this new Championship will be registered on the FIA calendar as an international championship consisting of a calendar of five races in France, one in Portugal and a final one in Spain.

But Stéphane Ratel's objectives do not stop there. The Blancpain GT Series promotion company offers the FFSA the opportunity to “collaborate with her on the renewal of the National Championship on the basis of this new concept”, which would thus leave aside the LMP3s which came into force this season. SRO has the necessary experience since this structure led the French Championship FFSAGT from 1998 to 2010 with an average entry list of 38 cars per season.

SRO will reveal further details during a press conference to be held in the paddock of the 24 Hours of Spa contested on the weekend of July 31.
