Supercars – Van Gisbergen crashes during testing at Bathurst

Shane van Gisbergen (Holden) damaged his #97 Commodore he shares with Matt Campbell during the third Bathurst 1000 practice session when he hit the wall. The reigning champion can nevertheless be relieved since the damage to his mount seems rather minor despite the impact (see video).

“It was mainly parts of the car that were damaged. There's a bit of work to be done, but it could have been worse. I must have hit it at around 80km/h, but you never know what to expect because it depends a lot on the angle,” admitted the Triple Eight Racing driver. Tim Slade (Holden) was less lucky since his exit from the track in the same place will force his team, Freightliner Racing, to carry out repairs lasting an estimated 24 hours.

David Reynolds (Holden) set the best time during the third practice session with a lap of the 6,213km Australian circuit completed in 2'05'0931. Championship leader Scott McLaughlin (Ford), who shares his Falcon in the endurance races with Alexandre Prémat, was the closest, three hundredths behind. His rival for the title Jamie Whincup (Holden) was fifth.

Bathurst 1000 testing will continue with two sessions this Friday which will precede the first part of qualifying. The shootout where the top ten of the grid will be played will be played on Saturday. The race will be broadcast live on MotorsportTV this Sunday from 1:45 a.m.
