TCR – Black weekend for Vernay at the Salzburgring

Jean-Karl Vernay (Volkswagen) had a difficult weekend at the Salzburgring (Austria). The Leopard Racing Team WRT driver retired during the first race following an exit from the track, in the same place as his teammate Rob Huff. The shock was violent enough to force the Frenchman to withdraw from the second event.

Dusan Borković (Alfa Romeo) won the first race of the TCR International Series by 8 tenths ahead of Mat'o Homola (Opel), while Stefano Comini (Audi) completed the podium ahead of Thomas Jäger (Opel) and Pepe Oriola (Seat).

The result of Race 1 remains provisional following a complaint from Lukoil Craft-Bamboo, which requested technical inspections on four cars, including the winner's Giulietta TCR.

Race 2

The M1RA team achieved a double in Race 2 with the victory of Roberto Colciago (Honda) ahead of his teammate Attila Tassi. Stefano Comini once again completed the podium ahead of Thomas Jäger. Gianni Morbidelli (Volkswagen) completed the top five ahead of the Seats of James Nash and Daniel Lloyd.

Dusan Borkovic was less successful than in the first race since the GE-Force driver retired, probably due to a broken driveshaft.

Jean-Karl Vernay loses the lead in the Championship and falls to 3rd position in the standings, 12 points behind Stefano Comini, the new leader of the TCR International Series.
