Guerrieri and Muller on pole in Hungary

Esteban Guerrieri was the strongest this Saturday during qualifying for the Hungaroring WTCR event.

The Argentinian from Münnich Motorsport dominated Q1 and Q3 at the wheel of his Honda Civic TCR to claim poles for the first and third races of the weekend, all of which will be contested tomorrow, Sunday.

Well ahead in Q1 with more than half a second ahead of Mikel Azcona (Cupra Leon TCR – Zengo Motorsport) and Yann Ehrlacher (Lynk&Co 03 TCR – Cyan Racing), Guerrieri did not tremble during the shoot-out in Q3, ahead of the three other Honda Civics from Münnich Motorsport, entrusted to Attila Tassi, Tiago Monteiro and Nestor Girolami.

But neither the Hungarian, nor the Portuguese nor his compatriot “Bebu” were able to do anything against the mastery of Guerrieri, author of a final time in 2'05″705, again more than half a second in front of Tassi. The only non-Münnich Motorsport driver in Q3, Mikel Azcona did not set a time.

At the forefront for races 1 and 3, Guerrieri will however see Yvan Muller (Lynk&Co 03 TCR – Cyan Racing) start from pole in race 2, the Alsatian taking advantage of his tenth place in Q2 to start on the front row under the rule of the reverse grid in front of Ehrlacher, Nathanaël Berthon (Audi RS 3 TCR – Comtoyou Team Audi Sport), Gilles Magnus (Audi RS 3 TCR – Comtoyou) and Jean-Karl Vernay (Alfa Romeo Giulietta – Team Mulsanne).

The four-time world champion will start 10th in C3, just behind Ehrlacher and Nathanaël Berthon. Jean-Karl Vernay will start from 6th place. In C1, we will find Muller in sixth place, when Vernay and Berthon complete the top 10 on the grid for the first race, scheduled for tomorrow at 9:15 a.m.
