The 2022 WTCR season promises great racing battles. The list of participants has just been revealed before the opening of the season in Pau (May 6 to 8). Of the seventeen participants this year, only Daniél Nagy has never won a race. “ With 16 full-season drivers having won one or more WTCR races, it is clear that the 2022 WTCR will be very open and of a very high standard », underlines Jean-Baptiste Ley, Director of the WTCR.

The five manufacturers Hyundai, Audi, CUPRA, Honda and Lynk & Co continue their commitments for the fifth season of the WTCR since the return of the category in 2018. This year, Hyundai and CUPRA have decided with their racing departments to field only one team carrying to eight the number of teams racing this season.

In the race for a 3rd WTCR title in a row

Yann Erlacher, the 2021 and 2020 title holder, will defend his crown alongside Yvan Muler at Cyan Racing Lynk & Co. The second team of the Swedish brand has three other drivers in its ranks: Thed Björk, Santiago Urrutia and Ma Qinghua.

At the wheel of the Audi RS 3 LMS, we find French driver Nathanaël Berton, accompanied by Tom Coronel, Gilles Magnus and Mehdi Bennnani. The two Honda teams decided to keep the same drivers as the previous year, namely Attila Tasi, Tiago Monteiro, Néstor Girolami and Esteban Guerrieri, 10-time WTCR winner.

Zengo Motorsport (CUPRA), which decides this year not to renew an academy team, has Rob Huff and Daniél Nagy in its ranks. South Korean manufacturer Hyundai has only two drivers left in WTCR this year with Mikel Azcona and Norbert Michelisz. It is on the Pau-Ville circuit that the drivers will compete this weekend for the first round of the WTCR.
