As the political conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues after Russian troops invaded Ukrainian territory, sports sanctions against the country led by Vladimir Putin continue to fall.
After F1 and the cancellation of the Russian Grand Prix scheduled for September 25, it was the WTCR which made a decision concerning the country of the tsars.
« In light of the extremely sad and disturbing events in Ukraine, WTCR promoter Discovery Sports Events confirms that in the current circumstances it is not possible to stage the round in Russia, which is due to host the 13th and 14th races of the 2022 season, » indicated the authorities of the Tourism World Cup in a statement.

If the WTCR is not talking about outright cancellation, it is difficult to imagine the touring championship going to Russia even if the situation improves in the coming months. As a reminder, it is not just motorsport that has made such decisions.
In football, the Champions League final initially scheduled for Saint Petersburg was relocated to the Stade de France in Saint-Denis. Owner of the Chelsea club, Russian businessman Roman Abramovich has handed over management to the club's charitable foundation. Sports sanctions which could continue to fall against Russia due to the decisions of its regime.
