After dominating the first qualifications yesterday, reigning champion Jamie Whincup (Red Bull Racing Australia) converted his performance into victory this Saturday by winning in the first race of the weekend. Whincup did not give in to pressure from the Ford of Chaz Mostert's Pepsi Max Crew during the last restart following the stop on the track of the Mercedes Will Davison's E63 AMG and joins Australian Mark Skaife on the list with this 90th success in the discipline. Fabian Coulthard places his Brad Jones Racing Holden on the third step of the podium. Scott McLaughlin (Volvo), victim of an oil leak during the formation lap, was unable to start.
The second round saw Coulthard climbs two ranks to win. Whincup was still in contention for victory, but a puncture ruined his hopes of a double. Holden, however, achieved the hat-trick with James Courtney (Holden Racing Team) and Craig Lowndes (Red Bull Racing Australia).
For his return to the discipline, Marcos Ambrose (DJR Team Penske) ranks 16th in the first two rounds. The third race will take place tomorrow.
