Vaxivière completes a royal crew at WRT

Rarely at the end of July, Matthieu Vaxivière already has three races in his legs. And got noticed. Engaged in the Nurburgring endurance series in Pro-Am alongside François Perrodo and Emmanuel Collard on a Mercedes AMG GT3 Evo, the 25-year-old Frenchman largely held his own against the big names on the circuit during his stints. Enough to catch the eye of Team WRT.

The Belgian team chose him to complete the crew of the No. 8 Audi R3 LMS GT31 Evo for the opening round of the GT World Challenge Europe, this weekend at Imola. IF Rolf Ineichen was initially expected, it is Vaxivière who will be associated for the three hours of racing at Mirko Bortolotti and Kevin Van der Linde. A royal crew.

Bortolotti created a surprise last winter by announcing his departure from Lamborghini. The Italian was the owner of the brand, which he took to the Blancpain GT Series title in 2017 via the Grasser Racing team. As for Van der Linde, the official Audi driver remains on course for a title in ADAC GT Masters.

Vaxivière does not stand out in this trio. Limougeaud carried out two complete campaigns with theAston Martin of R-Motorsport in GT World Challenge and remains on an excellent year 2019, punctuated by a podium at the 24 hours of Le Mans in LMP2 with TDS Racing. The Frenchman just needs a little more success.

At the Bathurst 12 Hours, R-Motorsport lost the lead ten minutes from time. Also entered in the Petit Le Mans in Dpi with the Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac, he failed one second from winning.

With the reinforcement of Vaxivière, Team WRT has two top crews. The team can aim for a first success in endurance since the opening round of 2018, at Monza. Christopher Mies and Dries Vanthoor won. They are present this year in Audi #32, with Charles Weerts.

The 3 Hours of Imola will be followed live this weekend on our website.
